What makes one beautiful? Is it what we see in the mirror? Can beauty be seen through our heart for God? Where does your beauty come from? Let's talk about it. It all started at a coffee shop. I was meeting one of the young ladies I have the honor of mentoring. I asked God what he wanted me to share that day. He led me to the book of Ruth to address the topic of relationships. I'll share a bit of that here today. We might even delve into one other scripture as well. You may have heard about Ruth and Boaz, the famed Bible love story. Ruth was an amazing woman. We can learn much from her even today. Welcome to the Your God Sister Podcast, where we address life's challenges with biblical answers while enjoying our time together. A couple of constants here are what the Bible says and what the Lord speaks to our hearts by the Holy Spirit. My name is Joy Cooper. I'm an associate pastor, I'm a youth minister, and through the years I've had the opportunity to mentor young ladies. But on this podcast, I'm here with you. What was shared at that coffee meetup ended up in a book. Once I got back into my car to go home, the Lord told me to write everything He had given me to share with that young lady in a book. I'll share some excerpts with you here today, but if you'd like to download the full book, just go to www.misterwright is that you dot com and I'll leave a link for you later. But let's begin. Here's an excerpt. The book of Ruth starts with the introduction of Naomi, a widow, who was Ruth's mother in law. Naomi was married to a man named Elimelech. There was a famine in their homeland of Bethlehem, Judah. So Elimelech, Naomi, and their two sons, Malon and Chilion journeyed to the country of Moab. Elimelech died in Moab, leaving Naomi and her sons. Malon and Chilion had wives, Orpah and Ruth. But Malon and Chilion also died. Naomi and her daughters-in-law were left to fend for themselves. So Naomi decided that they would go back to her homeland because that is where her needs could be supplied, as she heard that the Lord had visited his people by giving them bread. In this first chapter of Ruth, we also learn something about the heart of Ruth and who she was to those around her. For instance, Naomi released both daughters-in-law from the responsibility of caring for her. And I'm paraphrasing, but Naomi essentially said, I have no sons, I can offer you nothing. You are young. Go and live your lives. Don't worry about me. Ruth's sister-in-law, Orpa, cried a few tears, kissed Naomi, and left, never to return again. Ruth, on the other hand, showed a great deal of loyalty and faithfulness to Naomi. Consider the following reply by Ruth, illustrating her deep commitment to Naomi. Now let's read Ruth one verse sixteen and seventeen in the Passion Translation. It says, but tearfully Ruth insisted, please don't ask me again to leave you. I want to go with you and stay with you. Wherever you go, I will go. Wherever you live, I will live. Your people will now be my people and your God will now be my God. Wherever you die, I will die there too. That's where your people will bury me. Next to you. Nothing but death itself will separate me from you. So help me God. Wow. What a woman. Ruth is an amazing woman. She's showing forth um, she's showing forth great integrity. She's showing forth faithfulness, loyalty. She will not be moved just because her her husband died, who was Naomi's son. She's like, okay, my husband's no longer here, but you're still my family. You are still my family. And she's not gonna let anything change that. And so you see the integrity of this woman, you see her. Um there's something deep in her, there's something deep within her, there is something um that is just really commendable, and it's so interesting because we've just read about her, read about her mindset, and unfortunately, we don't often see this kind of person, period, man or woman, this type of person with such integrity, such faithfulness. It's just really, it's really beautiful, it's really beautiful, and so we see her strong commitment to her family, and I think it's something that we can look at ourselves and say, hey, you know, am I intentionally one who is living a life of integrity? Intentional, you could be a good person, but is it intentional? Just me sharing this today makes me think, okay, I can be more intentional about faithfulness, loyalty, commitment, have it more on my mind and more in my heart. So let's keep going. A godly man will notice a godly woman. And we're seeing this here with Ruth. She's she's even committed to no, your God, I want him. I want, I want your God. Because she was a foreigner. We'll see that later. She speaks of that, but she's like, no, no, no, no. I see something. I see. Naomi, I see your God. He's gonna be my God too. So let's look at uh Ruth 2, and we'll look at verse 5 through 7 again in the Passion Translation. Noticing Ruth, Boaz asked his foreman in charge of the harvesters, who is that young woman over there? The foreman answered, She's a Moabite girl who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab. She asked for permission to gather the grain left behind by the reapers, except for one short break, she's been on her feet working in the field since early this morning. So now I'm gonna give you another excerpt from the book. Let's break this down in simple terms. When a woman is in place serving God and others, she can be found by mister Wright easily because he is living the same kind of kingdom life. Boaz inquired about Ruth. Let us use our imagination to look deeper into this story. I am a woman who loves to look beautiful, smell good, dress well, but Ruth spent hours a day in a field gathering grain. These conditions are not conducive to stilettos, manicured nails, and a chic outfit. Ruth was probably sweaty, stinky, and worn out. But Boaz saw Ruth and asked about her. What did Boaz see? He saw the real Ruth. He saw what was inside of her. He saw her character. He saw her faithfulness, loyalty, and commitment. He witnessed her hard work. He recognized her service to others. Now again, I am a firm believer in looking our very best because ultimately we represent God. So please understand this is not an excuse for you to go out in the street looking crazy. What I am saying is Mr. Wright sees beyond outward adorning. Okay? I just want to make that clear. But it's so important. What we're seeing is Ruth essentially being clothed with integrity, faithfulness, loyalty, commitment. If we think about that, that's the most beautiful clothing one could wear. A real intentional, good, godly person. That's beautiful. Whenever I've seen people and I've seen their heart for God, I've seen their heart to please him and to serve him. Inevitably, if your singular goal is God, I desire to please you, you will look good to others who are trying to please him. That will be something that is noticeable to others who are endeavoring to please God as well. So these are the things that we need to put much emphasis on. Should we look nice? Absolutely. Should we dress well? Yes. Should we try to keep ourselves up? Yes. But not without the spiritual aspect. Not without, you know, there are people, we've all met people who are beautiful to the eye, but their insides are not good. They're not kind. They're not people of integrity. They'll lie to get ahead. That's not what we want to do. So Ruth is showing us what true beauty looks like. It's a heart after God. It's a heart to serve. It's a heart for others. That's what we're seeing here. So let's keep going. A godly man is impressed with integrity, loyalty, faithfulness, and commitment. Ruth two, ten through eleven in the New King James Version says. So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, and said to him, Why have I found favor in your eyes that you should take notice of me since I'm a foreigner? And Boaz answered and said to her, It has been fully reported to me all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before. Here's another excerpt from the book. Boaz knows loyalty, faithfulness, and commitment are essential for a successful relationship. There was much he ascertained about Ruth based on the good report he had received about her. He knew Ruth had proven herself trustworthy. He could tell Ruth was someone that would not abandon Ship if things got hard. Ruth showed herself to be someone who would be a great help in Boaz's life and business. All of these non-physical attributes made Ruth attractive to Boaz. We don't know from the scriptures, but if Ruth was a runway model gorgeous, that would just be a bonus. However, it's clear that it was not the main reason for Ruth being noticed. Boaz knew Ruth was a high caliber woman. So again, we see that Ruth's integrity, her care for her mother-in-law, her not leaving her mother-in-law, this was noticeable. This made her stand out in a crowd. I'm sure there were other women who were probably gathering grain in Boaz's field, but Ruth stood out, but it was her character that caused her to rise to the top. So with one last scripture for today, let's turn to Proverbs 31 and verse 30. In the New King James Version it says, Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. If this isn't a picture of Ruth, my goodness. And this is the thing, we can do this too. If you're listening to me, this can be you. And it's not just for women. Men who have these same characteristics stand out. A man who has integrity, a man who is loyal, faithful, who's committed, will stand out in a crowd. So this essentially to me is just who we are to be as Christians, as followers of Christ. We are to be people of high integrity, high loyalty, faithfulness, commitment. These are words that often are not spoken. They're not taught. What would it be like to teach our children these things? To teach our children to be people of integrity, that when they give their word that that should mean something. This is so good. This is so good. So this is what you know you've heard a Proverbs 31 woman. This is what she is, this is who she is. This is her character. So we have to understand and recognize God has made us to be this type of person. Our beauty is found in our love and reverence for God. It all goes back to what are we doing for Him? Are we being who we are to please God? Well, then other godly people will take note of that because they recognize it. Those who love and honor God with all their hearts are those who stand out. We could say it this way. Pause and think on these things until next time. I've been meaning to do this and I'm remembering today. I want to shout out a few cities where you all are listening from. Shout out to those listening in Ashburn, Virginia, Hollywood, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, Los Angeles, California, Brookfield, Illinois, and Indianapolis, Indiana. There are many other cities.
