I'm looking forward to next time. Enjoy a fantastic week!
Is there a hell? Will God send me there? I'm a good person. Isn't that isn't that good enough? What is this all about? Let's talk about it. Welcome to the Your God Sister Podcast, where we address life's challenges with biblical answers and have fun doing it. A couple of constants here are what the Bible says and what the Lord speaks to our hearts by the Holy Spirit. My name is Joy Cooper. I am an associate pastor, I am a youth minister, and through the years I've had the opportunity to mentor young ladies. But on this podcast, I'm your God sister. Hello. Today I'm here with you. And let's just dive right in. There are so many opinions about heaven and hell. There are even more thoughts and opinions about God and his role in it all. I want this episode to be very clear and very simple. God wants you to understand how you can become one of his children. That's a good place to start. Many of us have heard this statement. We are all God's children. Well, I have to tell you the truth. This statement is false. We are all God's creation, yes, but not everyone is his child. Galatians three twenty six in the Passion Translation says, You have all become true children of God by faith in Jesus Christ. Our belief in Jesus Christ makes us a child of God. Let's look at John three sixteen. And you may have heard this verse before, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Think about it this way. God loved mankind. He loved his creation so much that he made a way for them all to become his children through Jesus Christ. So yes, there is a hell, but it is God's desire that no person go there. He loved us so much that he gave his son so we could live with him. Now let's talk about some specifics. I want to make some things extremely clear. People think criteria for making heaven is wrapped up in good works. You might be thinking, I'm a good person. I try to do the right thing. I donate to good causes. I volunteer at the local food bank. I give to the poor. Well, these are all very lovely things that can certainly be expressions of a heart that has believed in Jesus, but they are not the way to heaven. We can categorize these things as good works, but we are adopted into the family of God by faith, not by works. John fourteen six says, Jesus said to them, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Now, if you add that truth to faith, let's look at Romans 10, 9 and 10, that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. It's that simple. Do you believe and have you confessed? It's not about the works, it's not about what you've done, it's not about any of that. It's about do you receive? Do you go about becoming a child of God the way God said to do it? We don't get to choose, we don't get to pick, we don't get to say, Well, I want to come this way, I want it to be because I'm so good. I want it to be because I do this. I want it to be no, he said, he told us the way. He said, Jesus said of himself, I am the way. Nobody gets to the Father except through me. And it's so wonderful because I'm gonna tell you, that levels the playing field. Isn't that wonderful? It's not this group get it, this group doesn't. Those people get it, these people don't. No. So is there a hell? Yes, but it was never made for us. The Bible is so clear about who hell is for. Matthew twenty five, verse forty one. Then he will also say to those on the left hand, depart from me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. God has provided the way for us to be with him now and forever. Romans five, one and two, and I'll also read verse six through eight. Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die, yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love toward us, and that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. These are some amazing verses. It's very clear. We're justified by faith, not by works. We're justified by faith in what Jesus did on the cross. That is what brings us in right standing with God. Before Jesus did that, we were not in right standing with him, but Jesus got that right standing back for us because he was a perfect sacrifice. His blood being shed makes us righteous in the eyes of God. That's why we can approach God the Father freely if we accept what Jesus did. So through Jesus, we have access by faith to God. Isn't it wonderful? And you know, people like to say, oh, you know, God's mad at me, God hates sinners. No, he doesn't. God loves sinners, loves sinners so much that he says, okay, sin can't approach me because I'm all powerful and I'm wonderful and I am good. But Jesus' blood on the sinner is what allows the sinner to then become righteous and be my child. So Jesus is the gift that God gave the world so that the world through him, through Jesus, could be saved. This is good. God is not mad. God is not mad. He loves, I mean, and think about it. If if while it says, but God demonstrates his own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. So that was the lowest we could possibly be, was a sinner. And while we were at our lowest, he loved us so much that he gave us Jesus so that we can come into fellowship with him. So no, God is not mad at you. No, he's not sending you to hell because he tells you how to avoid hell. He gives us free will, he'll let us choose. Put it this way: for those of you who are maybe married or um in a relationship, you don't want your husband to be made to love you. You better love me. That is not that is not signs of a healthy relationship. You want your husband to choose you. And the same with God. He wants us to choose him. He shows us what our options are, he even tells us what the best option is, but he will not make us choose. Look at um look at Deuteronomy chapter 30 and verse 19. And I like how the complete Jewish Bible um states this verse. I call on heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have presented you with life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore, hey, hey, come here. Therefore, choose life. So that you will live, you and your descendants. So that's literally, it's like an open book test. It's like, hey, this is the test question. There's one test question, and this is the answer. Choose the answer. So, no, God is not angry, he's not sending people to hell, he has told us what the answer is. So we then have to choose the answer because he knows what choosing the wrong answer will get us. God is so loving, he's so loving. I often give this example. If I was giving a dinner and I invited everyone in the world to my dinner, yes, I have a big house. I invited everybody to this dinner. On the invitation, I have the address to the dinner, I have the time to the dinner, um, I have where the dinner is and how to get there. I have every piece of information that you'll need in order for you to show up at the dinner. Well, if those that I have invited, if some of them choose to make up their own way and show up somewhere else, those people cannot say that I didn't like them, can't say I didn't love them, can't say that I sent them to a place that had no food. Those people can't say any of that because those people chose not to follow the instructions. Those people cannot say to me, but I'm a good person, you know me. You know me, I'm good, I do good things, I I I try to be um kind to the poor. And I would say, that's great, but that wasn't how you get to my house. I gave you the directions, I gave you a map, I told you what time to arrive. Do you see how this is applicable to what we're talking about? God has given us the instructions on how to become his child. He has told us in the Bible that Jesus is the only way to the Father. He has told us in the Bible that hell really isn't made for us. All of these things are very clear. We cannot make the choice that doesn't line up with that and expect to arrive in heaven. Expect to arrive living a good life on earth. Because receiving Jesus, I'll just say this and maybe we'll talk about this in an episode in the future. But receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior, accepting the gift that God gave us in Jesus, yes, it does take care of our eternity, it does take care of us living with God forever in heaven, but it also takes care of our life here on earth. It's the gift that keeps on giving. So, do you understand what I'm saying? Do you understand how that analogy is so applicable? Me inviting everyone to my house, giving them specific instructions, giving them everything they need to arrive at my house. If people choose to do something different, it is not on me. It's not that they weren't fully equipped to be able to arrive. It's not that I'm mad. It's not that I sent them somewhere else. Do you see what I'm saying? This is important, this is simple, and this is clear. We don't get to tell God how to arrive at his house. He has laid it out very plainly, very clear, because he loves us. He tells us the way. So I want you to choose Jesus as your savior. I want you to have no question about where you will spend eternity. I don't want you to be confused any longer. This isn't this isn't a scary topic. It's not scary because it's so clear. It's not scary because it's not a secret. God tells us exactly, exactly how to make it to heaven. He tells us exactly how to become his child. I want that for you. I want for you, if you are not sure that you're a child of God, if you're not sure that you would go to heaven when you die, if you're not sure about where you would spend eternity, you can be sure. You can go back through those scriptures that I read, and you can decide to choose God's way, and his way is through Jesus. This is so good. This I I I will say this if you choose Jesus, it is the most important decision that you can make. And like hands down, there is no other decision this important. If you are ready to choose Jesus as the way to the Father by faith, we can pray this together. Dear Father God, thank you for loving me so much that you gave me your most precious gift, Jesus Christ. The Bible says in Romans 10, 9 and 10 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. I believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe he died for my sins. I believe his death, burial, and resurrection are why I'm reconciled with you. I now receive the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. I am now your child, and Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Father. Amen. That I almost don't have words, but that is the most important decision you could ever make, and the most important prayer you could ever pray. And if you have accepted Jesus right now, I want to hear from you. If you're listening on YouTube, you can leave me a comment. If you're on any other podcast platform, there will be a link for you to leave me a message. It's time to celebrate. You have new life in Jesus Christ. Pause and think on these things until next time. Thank you for joining me today. This episode is so important. We will continue to explore God's great love for us. This is a great episode to share with loved ones who have unanswered questions about God. Let's work together and point people to Jesus. Remember, this is not about an increase in stat numbers, it's about sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We'll talk soon, but until next time, know what the Bible says and treasure what the Lord speaks to your heart.
